The Stinking Truth About Antiperspirants!

The Stinking Truth!

There are many ingredients manufacturers add to deodorants to make them more effective. However, these ingredients do more harm to your body than good. Some of them [2] include below:

Aluminum

This is a big one! This ingredient comes with various health risks. Aluminum is linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s. Doctors have noticed aluminum alongside parabens in breast issues of patients diagnosed with cancer. Although further studies are needed to prove that this chemical poses a risk of breast cancer, it is better to be safe than sorry by avoiding deodorants with aluminum as one of its ingredients.

Parabens

Some manufacturers use various parabens as preservatives in personal care products such as deodorant. Parabens are believed to interfere with how our bodies produce and regulate certain hormones such as estrogen.

We have estrogen-sensitive tissues in our breasts. Health professionals worry that putting parabens in your underarms, which are close to the breast tissues daily could encourage the growth of breast cancer cells. The risk is for both men and women who use deodorants containing parabens. Parabens are also known to cause hormonal imbalance, organ toxicity, and birth defects.

Triclosan

According to the FDA, Triclosan is classified as a pesticide. The EPA classifies this ingredient as probable carcinogenic. Triclosan is an antibacterial that is linked to skin irritation, antibiotic resistance, thyroid problems, and allergies.

People use Triclosan as an insecticide to prevent or reduce bacterial contamination. Many manufacturers add this substance to deodorants to help kill bacteria. However, if you combine triclosan with water, it can create chloroform, a carcinogenic gas.

Also, triclosan has shown effects on hormone regulation alteration. It may also make bacteria resistant to antibiotics in humans. You don’t want to be prescribed antibiotics when sick only to realize that an ingredient in your deodorant is making bacteria in your body resistant to the medication. Strange Huh?

Propylene Glycol

This is the active ingredient in antifreeze. However, it is also used in softening products, and you will find it among the ingredients in your deodorant. When metabolized in the liver, propylene glycol can damage your heart and the central nervous system.

Phthalates

Many deodorants come with synthetic fragrances. If you look through the list of your deodorant’s ingredients, you will notice the words parfum or fragrance. However, these are only used to mask other chemicals including phthalates. This is why our fragrance oils are phthalates free!

Phthalates are plasticizers in deodorants, children’s toys, lotions, and fragrances. They are known to increase the risks of birth defects in women who have shown high levels of phthalates in their urine or blood, ADHD, asthma, obesity, breast cancer, altered reproductive development, and autism. Phthalates are also linked with male fertility problems.

Are You convinced yet? It's time to make the switch to natural deodorant! We hope you’ll give ours a try!
